Pajama Sam 4 -- originally a different direction?
I just recently saw the concept art of the Hungry Piggy from the Spektakle Portfolio. The description for the game is as follows "Pajama Sam, dives into his toybox, he journeys through a world populated by toys-come-to-life". The game being referred to is Pajama Sam 4. So my question is, was Sam exploring his Toybox originally going to be the main premise for Pajama Sam 4?
Here's the pros and cons with this fan hypothesis:
CONS:
PROS:
In general, the Toy box idea seemed to be more original and inspired than the final premise of Pajama Sam 4, to me at least. Whereas the idea of Sam just exploring his room always seemed a bit too redundant. Sam already explored his closet in the first game, why not do something else? Sam has gone to three distinct locations in his previous games. So having him explore just his toy box instead would've made more sense.
If anyone has anything to add to shed light on the matter, in one way or another, don't hesitate to speak up! Learning what really happened is more important, than entertaining a possible "fan fantasy".
Here's the pros and cons with this fan hypothesis:
CONS:
- This is just one artist talking about a game they were working on.
- The toybox could've been just one zone in the game, while keeping the original premise of Sam going through his room. Pajama Sam games tend to have lots of smaller "zones"-- such as the mine in Pajama Sam 1 or the Beach \ Carnival in Pajama Sam 3.
- An entire toybox seems a little shallow to base an entire game on it. For instance, Sam explored his entire attic in Pajama Sam 2.
PROS:
- Even though some toy characters did end up in Pajama Sam 4, you couldn't call it his entire toybox.
- The entire Roman Soldier character shown in the concept art was actually cut from the game. Not only that, the final look of the pig came to be alot different. So there was at least some stuff that changed direction by the final cut of the game.
- The artist said that the parody nature of the Hungry Pig might've created some legal issues: "A little too obvious, at least to the legal department at Humongous.". Perhaps this and the other toy ideas would've created problems with the legal department, so they went the "safer" route of just exploring Sam's room?

Re: Pajama Sam 4 -- originally a different direction?
I recently found this image on an artist's portfolio page, who worked for HE under Atari. The images were under prototypes that he made to see how 2D characters would work in 3D. It's next to a Spy Fox and Pajama Sam model.
This might not related at all to Pajama Sam, but if it is, it would be further evidence of a previously more toy-driven premise to Pajama Sam 4. If so, I can see where this story would run into legal issues.

It should be happen in the 5th game perhaps. Hopefully I wish it could come true to life.

I do hope that the same content will be used in Pajama Sam 5 as well (assuming that Tommo, Inc. still might make more Junior Adventure games since they came to an end in 2003).

Okay, I made my own (possible) story plot for Pajama Sam 5.
One Saturday morning, Sam was messing up his room after playing his toys, mostly he holds a Pajama Man Action Figure with Titanium Elbow Thrust where he got it from the third game. Then Sam's mom calls his son for lunch, but he accidentally fell down at the scattered toys without looking. After lunch, he has an idea - Sam decided to look for his cape and become Pajama Sam. As the world's youngest superhero with his imaginative world, he went to the toy box and starts his new adventure.
