Re: Curator - Soundtracks Thread
I helped Curator to 'Save the KickStarter Project' after having problems. I hope this works.

It's 2019 now, so I am wondering if there is any more progress on the remastered soundtrack projects yet. Any news?
Re: Curator - Soundtracks Thread
If I understand correctly, the Kickstarter was canceled because it had virtually no chance of success after its weak launch. Curator is currently preparing a new Kickstarter that, as far as I understand, will also include the soundtracks for Freddi Fish 1 and Pajama Sam 3.

Accurate! George (The Fat Man) is working on final mixes of Zoo and Sam3 right now. We just finished a preliminary mix of Freddi Fish 1, and I'm now working on the manufacturing side of things and publicity.
The new Kickstarter also includes one more soundtrack, however, that I haven't announced. We wanted to cover all four major characters, so another composer had to be recruited. ;) Makes for a nice set of albums!
This campaign's looking fantastic, and we're hoping for an April launch.

Cool! I'm glad he is still working on those soundtracks. Here's what I'd love to see:
1. I am hoping for very high quality versions of the Humongous Entertainment game soundtracks.
2. I would like CD versions.
3. I want to see all HE game soundtracks of the games with sprite graphics (e.g. Putt-Putt Joins the Parade) to be released as different variants.
Thanks, Tim!
Re: Curator - Soundtracks Thread
Don't 1. and 2. contradict each other? CDs don't offer lossless quality. You can easily burn the soundtracks to your own CDs, but that will reduce their quality.
As for 3., the soundtracks for the DOS games should be the lowest priority, in my opinion. While they were pre-recorded and heavily downsampled for the Windows versions (and somewhat less heavily downsampled for the 3DO versions), the DOS versions instead use the original XMI files. It's already possible to extract and play them with any MIDI device of your choice in perfect quality. The only exception to this is the intro to Putt-Putt 2, whose DOS version lacks the vocals. Although it would be interesting to know what devices were originally used to record them for the Windows and 3DO versions. I was never able to figure that out.

Re: Curator - Soundtracks Thread
CDs ARE lossless, but they're at 16-bit 44100hz stereo. It is true that if the source audio is 24 or 32-bit, has a higher sample rate, or is in surround sound that a CD will have less quality, assuming you have it in a format like flac or PCM, but CDs are still a lot better than an MP3 or the like of similar specifications, not to mention the original games. (Which are 8-bit 11025hz mono.)
Re: Curator - Soundtracks Thread
I see. In that case, I suppose CDs wouldn't be such a bad alternative to FLAC after all.
On an unrelated note, I have a question for the Curator guy, assuming he pops up again. Are you guys aware of the two replacement tracks ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEP922v2Kt4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWl6_w5ydMY) that were used in some of Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo's dubs and accidentally carried over to the game's English rereleases? Would be nice to have those included as well. Also, was the replacement track for saving Sammy ever finished? The version included in the game is obviously incomplete.

Yes, both those tracks are on the Zoo Remastered Soundtrack, and yes, the replacement track for saving Sammy was finished and is also on the soundtrack (Track #26, "African Velvet"). It was originally for the Three Gates.

The campaign has started: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/curator/the-music-of-humongous-entertainment/description
The Curator guy already made a new topic about this, but I thought it might be worth mentioning it here as well. After all, it's possible some people who no longer check this forum are still receiving notifications for this topic.
