Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Well, it seems we all have different preferences in an operating system for our games. So, what's your favorite?
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
I would say Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft has made and my favorite, it feels well made and alot of thought has gone into it, it feels retro and modern at the same time and it just works well.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Definitely Windows 7. Took the great potential from Vista and made it a great reality. It also borrowed intelligently from Mac OS features without going too far in that direction and becoming overly user-friendly.
Sadly, Windows 8 has gone too far. It's nice to have a smooth, sleek interface, but that sacrifices the visibility of things PC-savvy users might want to be able to see. 7 keeps it balanced: Navigation is dynamic and appealing, but you can still be fully aware of what's going on under the hood.

Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
I just can't get enough of Windows 7. Microsoft obviously saw what they did wrong with Vista and had stability and extensive bug-testing in mind during the development of W7.
Although they're going to phase out long-term support for XP next year, it still proves to be very useful especially on older laptops such as my Dell Latitude CPx.
Windows 3.1, 95 and 98...well they're all pretty much the best OSes for running older games on. Quite helpful if you can't get something working on a newer computer.

Windows ME is without a doubt the greatest achievement of mankind!
Response
My first two favorite Windows operating systems are Windows XP and Windows 7. I have a Dell computer with Windows XP Professional SP2 on it.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
For older OSes, I'm a fan of Windows 95 for life. My original Packard Bell Legend 822CDT childhood computer came with it and it was the OS I used to learn how to use a computer. Nowadays, Windows 95 to me seems like a perfect inbetween for mid '90s gaming, which is my favorite game era. It can run everything designed for Windows 95, everything designed for Windows 3.1, and MS-DOS. I also like Windows 3.1x just because it's cool and fun to play with.
For current OSes, I'm very partial to Windows 7. I've always said it's "Vista done right" and I stand by that. It has the features and look of Vista with the speed and reliability of Windows XP.
Speaking of Windows XP, it's my second favorite modern OS because it's lightweight, always reliable, and can run on just about anything. It'll be a sad day next year when Windows XP loses support from Microsoft.

Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Windows XP is probably the OS that will define my computer experience for a long time, but Windows 7 is my favorite simply because it's got the best parts of Windows XP and Vista without many of the problems that plagued either of the two (especially Vista). I really, REALLY like the Windows 9x series, though, since they're the most nostalgic for me.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Wow. Looks like Windows 7 is a popular OS. XP comes in a close second and I saw some fans of 95. I for one am a fan of Windows 95, 98, XP and Windows 7.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Best: New OS's: Windows 7: It's lite, it's fast, and it looks really great! It looks better than Vista and preformes better too
Worst: New OS's: Windows Vista: **** this stupid ****, it is very slow, lags all the time, I don't like how it looks, plus it's incompatible with many stuff.
Best: Old OS's: Windows 2000: Like Windows 7's granddad
Worst: Old OS's: Windows ME and 98: Okay, 98 for me and a couple of people I know gave crashing problems, and well, ME, why do I need to explain...

Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Honestly, after all the patches, Vista looks a lot like, and looks to act like 7. Essentially the poor man's version of 7. 95's ok, but 98 (SE anyway) kicks its ass. Amazing compatibility with EVERYTHING! Glad you're in the 7 loving camp.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
I had Service Pack 1, it would not let me upgrade it to SP2, I even tried it manuelly, but nope, and SP1 is very buggy, so yeah. Vista sucked back then, and is sucks forever!
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
I believe Vista's been completely hacked open, so you should be able to... cough.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Windows 7 hands down.

Any of the Microsoft OSes (besides Vista, too slow for my taste.) are my favorites, though I do like the macOS, too.

Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
I have to admit, Windows 10 is looking REALLY nice. I tried the tech preview on my laptop a few months ago and I absolutely love the new start menu. It really combines the old with the new and it's done in a way that makes sense.
Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
Windows 98 and Windows XP have to be my old favorites (XP was the first Windows I ever used), and Windows 98, because all my old Humongous Entertainment games I first played on XP seem to suit 98 very well.) For modern Windows, Windows 7 has to be my favorite because it's very reliable, even though it will drop a few spots when Windows 10 comes out and I get my hands on a legit copy because I like Windows 10's look, and in my opinion, Windows 7 is starting to become a bit behind compared to Linux and OS X, but it's still reliable.

Re: Favorite Windows OS (OK to post multiple)
From most to least:
1. WINDOWS XP! Compatibility with older programs (like Humongous Entertainment games ) and you can change the UI to classic, which is my favorite UI!
2. Windows 7. The Aero UI is nice, but you can still change it back to classic, which is good. But it has no compatibility with some programs (not sure about HE, I play the games in ScummVM anyway).
3. Windows 2000. Already in the classic UI, has compatibility with older programs like XP.
4. Windows 95&98. Were hyped up, 95 was the first version to have a start menu, and they both had a lot of great games released for them (including the HE games of course ).
5. Windows 3.1x. Pretty cool, also has good games released for it, and fun to tinker with.
6. Windows 10. It's here because, it works well on my laptop but on my brother's computer, it is very slow and, previously it had a bug where if you opened a program, it would close immediately after opening. The bug mysteriously fixed itself recently.
No thoughts on the rest. So, my favorites are XP and 7.
