Just wanted to share with you what I'm working on :)
I'm currently doing assignments in 3D for a subject in uni, which is to model and rig a character. While I was modelling I thought "HEY! What if I modeled Pajama Sam in 3D?"
So I went ahead and got an image from google image search and blew it up and worked from that. It's very rough, there are tons of things I should have done to make it proper but it's just a thing on the side so it's pretty rushed. Here's some progress pics! (I'll be discussing each step of what I'm doing, if you are interested in modelling as well, or just for your curiosity! otherwise ignore)
Started off with the box method. Like sculpture, creating a polygon cube and then stretching it and adding edge loops and moulding the vertices and edges/faces. I extruded faces for the arms and legs. I'm using the image as my reference to it's near exact proportions.
It looks a lot smoother now because there are two modes; 1 is what it looks like pre-rendered and 2 is what it looks like rendered. For this image it's in 2. I've added shoes!
Two shoes! A bit of an arm is poking out!
This is one lengthy post, so I'll be updating you guys every day or so..who's excited

Update!
Two arms! It's a 2D picture so the arms look a bit weird when placed in 3D.
BAM!! COLOURED AND ADDED HIS TORCH!
Making his Pajama Sam Lunchbox! Don't know why his sprinkle friend from Pajama Sam three popped up. Hey that gives me an idea...

Are you planning on making a 3D model of Putt-Putt? Because I think it would be fitting for an add-on for games like Midtown Madness 1 and 2, Monster Truck Madness 1 and 2, 4x4 Evolution, and 4x4 Evo 2! And can I also assume that you're using Blender to design that model?

I'm using Maya actually, and maybe I'll do a Putt-Putt one, when I have time. I'm very busy already with uni work D:

The face is going to be the last because I still haven't figured out yet the best way to make it. The 2D lines for the face doesn't correlate/transfer well to 3D. But it'll be there!

While I'm figuring out how to do the face, enjoy a pic of a humanoid PJSam I drew on the train

2 things. 1 will you be adding bones to the mesh? and 2 will you be sharing it with us via download?

How is this model coming by the way?
As a minor suggestion, it seems like you're using some kind of automatic smoothing tool on a model that was originally modelled in lower polygons (if not, please correct me on this). I would recommend making a lower poly version of the model first, then incrementally add definition.
That's not to say your model looks bad-- it actually looks really good. Just something to try for your future models. :)

First off, HELLO GUYS I'M BACK!! I've been extremely busy with assignments, so I have not posted for a while.
To lava89, what I first did was create using polygon shapes in Maya 2014, with a low number of sub divisions, so yes low poly. There are 6 or so views in Maya. 1 is when there is no smoothing going on, so you see the polygonal edges and shapes. 2nd view is same except you see what it looks like smoothed as a wireframe, and 3 is smoothed. So in the photos I posted up, I pressed 3 to view it smoothed. It doesn't do anything to my model, like change it physically, it is just how it looks like smoothed.
So yea, I am working from a low poly version of the model then adding edge loops and what not to define it. Thank you for your tip anyway!
I've went to render view and viewed what it would look like with a physical sun added. Looks a lot better doesn't it :)
Yes, he has no eyes or mouth yet, wondering how to make it look good :))))))
I don't know if I should continue... do any of you want to see this finished? Should I go on? If a lot of people say yes, then I'll keep going

Hmm.. if I were to add bones to the mesh, I will have to create Pajama Sam from scratch again. See, when rigging a character, it has to be in a certain pose (the Da Vinci man pose). If I just put in the bones now, it will mess everything up because he's in such an unnatural pose. In the end it'll be whether or not it's worth using my free time to undertake such a task
Sharing it via download? We'll see! Depends on the demand, if a lot of people want it..

Ok, yeah I guess my issue is that his feet look a little bit too boxy or flat on the end.
But yes, I would like to see this project continued :)
