a. To take (a photograph). b. To photograph: snapped the winner on the podium.

And hopefully no people were snapped. In half.

lmao, I would never destroy a HE game, let alone a rare copy of one.

Anyway here's the pic. It says Copyright 1994 on the disc, although a large number of the disc's files have 1995 as the year they were made. Also it's interesting to note that this copy of the game has optional subtitles unlike any other version I've seen.

It's not particularly rare; in fact, Freddi Fish was a best seller!

I remember that. After that, all HE games still came with subtitles but you couldn't turn them on via the game menu, unless you used the he.ini file or ScummVM (the 1998 reissue of "Freddi Fish 1" also dropped the ability to turn on subtitles while in the game, due to the pause menu being redone.)

You could turn on subtitles in our dubs, though!

No you couldn't; in fact, the subtitles weren't even changed with the dialog, which makes for very weird playing.

I actually remember seeing an article from circa 1998 a long time ago recommending use of the TextOn HEINI setting FOR dead kids. So maybe not...

Game Rereleases - Page 2 Empty Re: Game Rereleases

Post by Onfy Thu Oct 11, 2012 6:19 pm

I don't believe it, but with the help of the amazing thing known as Google's cache, I was able to find it! http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:tNKMnGXryUgJ:rmtc.fsdb.k12.fl.us/multimedia/access.html

(Please let me know if that link stops working. I saved a copy of the HTML and could rehost it.)

Edit: and here's the relevant text itself, for posterity.

Humongous Entertainment- http://www.humongous.com
April 23, 1999 How to Display Text in Humongous Entertainment Games
Most Humongous Titles have text option that allows spoken dialog to display as text on screen within the game. Most of our newer titles require that the hegames.ini file be modified to include the line: TextOn=1 below the heading for the individual title. Only our older titles have a check box option (enabled by pressing the Space Bar and then checking the display text box) within the game. The following titles have captions.

Blue’s Birthday Adventure
Blue’s ABC Time
Big Thinkers Kindergarten
Big Thinkers 1st Grade
Junior Field Trips Collection*
Freddi Fish and The Case Of The Missing Kelp Seeds
Freddi Fish 2: The Case Of The Haunted Schoolhouse
Freddi Fish 3: The Case Of the Stolen Conch Shell
Freddi Fish 4: The Case Of The Hogfish Rustlers of Briny Gulch*
Freddi Fish and Luther’s Maze Madness
Let’s Explore The Farm
Let’s Explore The Jungle
Pajama Sam in No Need To Hide When It’s Dark Outside
Pajama Sam 2: Thunder And Lightning Aren’t So Frightening
Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo
Putt-Putt Enters the Race
Putt-Putt and Pep’s Balloon-O-Rama
Spy Fox in Dry Cereal

Putt-Putt Joins The Parade - Turn on using Space Bar (see directions above).

*Junior Field Trips Collection: Let’s Explore the Farm and Let’s Explore the Jungle both have text if TextOn=1 is entered under their heading in the hegames.ini file. Let’s Explore the Airport does not have a text option.

*Freddi Fish 4: Text in this game is enabled by adding TextOn=1 to the hegames.ini file, However the display speed of text during the intro movie was too fast to read on our test machine. Text in the remainder of the game was displayed at a normal speed.

If the kid is dead, there's little chance they'll be able to play the game anyways.

So the subtitles for HRBG were not tested extensively?

There was a 1996 re-release of "Putt Putt Saves the Zoo", along with Freddi Fish 1. I have proof if you dont believe me :)

Interesting. Is it just the 1995 version reissued though?

I guess mine was the 1996 version, that's what it looked like! Nothing interesting then!

Good find, Filmreelriley! Was there a 1997 version of No need to Hide when it's Dark Outside, perhaps?

Indeed you weren't, here is mine: https://i.servimg.com/u/f36/17/86/82/66/96_exa10.jpg

Pizzaking27 wrote:Good find, Filmreelriley! Was there a 1997 version of No need to Hide when it's Dark Outside, perhaps?

Thank you! For "No Need...", I would say that there was not a specific '97 version, because Humongous continued the "mosaic" type disc cover up to '98 (Freddi Fish 3, for example). However, I have two copies of Freddi Fish 1 that look the same, and both read '96, except there are subtle differences that make me think they were released in different years. Take a look: https://i.servimg.com/u/f36/17/86/82/66/differ10.jpg Notice the serial numbers and the different ways of writing the copyright info. So HE probably continued on with the same releases for "No Need..." as well. :)

I actually recall seeing a copy of Freddi Fish 1 with a picture of them with King Crab and the title was mislabeled as "Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing King."

Very strange...could've been a bootleg. Has anyone else ever seen this?
