Why not? Freddi: Huh?

It's pretty difficult to find a good background artist, and I think it would be better to try several forums.

Others may not have the care we do of the games. Plus, it may be hard to convince someone to come onto such a badly organized project, like how we have Schrödinger's pay going on right now. That and I don't really want to go public with this yet, in case I run into issues with Nimbus or Atari. Or I cause any between them. It feels safer here because few people use this site.

We can also make that gem a spoof of Pink Panther. Maybe something like "Crimson Goat" or "Verdant Ibex".

Sorry, I don't get it. I guess he's not as popular here.

The plot of the movie "Pink Panther" revolved around a diamond of the same name.

Can't say I've seen it. I'm assuming it's one of those David Hasslehoff-type things where it's inexplicably popular in a foreign land. Probably through bootleg videotapes.

It is a fairly well-known/popular movie, at least in America. After all it did spawn 8 sequels, a reboot, a sequel to said reboot, and 4 animated television series.

From 1964? You may be dating yourself more than I thought possible. Or am I very very confused?

Here's an idea I had: choices of difficulty. There could be an easy mode, that's the game brought down to the level of Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish games in difficulty. There would also be no way to get the best ending with Willy in jail in easy. Also, there will be no part of the game in this mode that requires reading ability. Normal is self-explanatory, Hard could add a little more challenge to the puzzles, very hard would have a million ways to lose, like Sierra games, and there could also be an impossible difficulty, which would cause you to lose during the intro cutscene, because it's impossible! :D

That's fine. Can't really imagine a Pajama Man adventure though. Didn't available info suggest it would be an action game?

More on topic, I'm planning on drafting a design document sometime. Though probably not soon, I've not had the time for something like that lately.

And here's my first design document for the game, covering interface, gameplay concepts and the first bit of game. Feel free to make improvements and additions. http://home.cogeco.ca/~georgeqgreg/spyfoxdesign/

Some awesome ideas Putt: Happy Face

Just two

1) If William Kid is the boss of the telecommunications (which is an interesting idea), Spy Fox would probably talk to his secretary or something, not him in person. Perhaps he'd have to explore his office and maybe find some suspicious stuff? (this could be added on the "hard" difficulty level, the "easy" level would probably go with exactly the same plotline as the original SF).

2) I don't think we should aim towards little children who cannot read. They usually don't surf on the Net, and hardly know what a fanproject is. I think the "official" Spy Fox 1 would be enough for them.

What we're doing is more of a nostalgia piece for those who have been fond of Humongous since their childhood (and perhaps it'll interest some teen or adult gamers who haven't heard about it before). However, I'm looking forward to your ideas for the "Monkey Island" and "Sierra" difficulty levels. I think there could be deaths like:

My idea was basically that he runs everything on the island. But yes, I think I've tripped over a logic roadblock. I was also thinking that easy could be a simplified version of the original. With some of the harder puzzles replaced with easier ones.

Hmm. My basic thing was that the original game had helpful things for illiterate kids. Like how Spy Fox would read signs and such. I'm not too sure how likely it would be for young kids to be playing it, I guess it depends on how "far" it goes. Cough cough. Beyond that, I believe I've heard of parents playing the King's Quest remakes with their children.

I wasn't thinking we should say Spy Fox actually *died*. Maybe we could imply it, but I was thinking along more non-violent lines. Like "Spy Fox was captured by enemy agents." Or "Spy Fox accidentally sent himself to Spy Jail, where he rotted for the rest of his life, which wasn't long, because William the Kid's Plan B was to blow up the earth." (OK, maybe I'm getting a little batshit there. :D)

I also thought that in the "hard" difficulty level, we could add some really complex and "adult" spy/detective intrigue. Like, maybe William Kid's connection to other crimes/villains.

This sounds really cool...
Can I help with backgrounds?
because I, um...started sketching one...

I left space in the bottom for the bar thingy, but I can change that if we don't want the bar. or make it bigger. or whatever.
Of course Monkey Penny wouldn't be in the finished background.
I'm happy to make any changes before I go any further...

The summer is basically here now! Can we try to start graphic work, and get an interface wired? Ideas have been thrown around, now let's improve on them, refine them, merge them, and generally make a great way of playing!
