Stay Tooned! Empty Stay Tooned!

I doubt anybody else among you remembers this game since it never sold that well to begin with (quite a shame, isn't it?), but I'll tell you, Stay Tooned was the absolute GREATEST (imo) non-HE kids' adventure game I have ever played in my lifetime.

The basic premise of the game was that you were a tenant of a seemingly normal apartment complex, channel surfing on your television when you notice this strangely convincing red button on your television remote that the cartoon characters on your television plea you either to press or not to press. Not being able to let go of your curiosity, you press the red button and ever so suddenly the cartoon characters bust out of your television and steal your remote, soon running rampant around the whole apartment doing everything to wreak havoc all over the place. And now it's your responsibility to search all around the complex for the remote so that you can zap the toons back in.

Stay Tooned was a chock full o' fun, with exciting challanges and minigames awaiting you at every corner you turned. And, of course, that classic, old-school Saturday morning cartoon humour you (obviously) can't do without. Here's a video that gives you a general idea of what the game was like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJgoxGjgB9M

This was one of my all-time favourites when I was a wee one, and I still love it to death today. In fact, I'm such a huge fan of it that I ever so suddenly started wondering if it ever got any foreign-language dubs like most of the HE Junior Adventures did.

Thoughts, anybody?

Well, crap, here's the part where I regret not picking it up at my local thrift store...seriously, I saw it on the shelf several times and I never thought about it. Oh well, it's too late now. I never knew anything about it until I read this post. I may check it out when I get the time.

Well, if you do check it out and it IS there, grab it in a flash. Since the game never sold well back in the day (as I already mentioned), it typically goes for ludicrous prices on eBay and as such chances of finding it at a thrift store are pretty slim.

EDIT: Oh, beg my pardon! I didn't notice you mentioned that it wasn't at your local thrift store anymore until I read the post a second time. Because of that, I initially thought you meant "check out the thrift store again", not "check out the video". Sorry.

Sierra, eh? There's a good chance it did wind up overseas all over the place.

I know a few people in the UK who have a copy, although it's probably the standard US version.

If anybody were to do foreign language dubs of Stay Tooned then it most likely wouldn't have been Sierra themselves - then again, I believe Davidson & Associates (who, along with Sierra, were acquired by CUC Software a few months prior to the game's release in 1996) were the ones who held most of the actual rights to the game.

Coktel Vision handled French dubbing in the late 90s. As a result, Sierra's French Localizations like Torrin's Passage and Leisure Suit Larry 7 wound up being some of the best ever made.
