Remember that rare 4-game disk of mine that I've brought up at several points? If you can't recall, this is it:
The things you never know until you take a closer look... Cd10
This is the first HE disc I ever owned, way back in 1997. Or rather, late 1996, as I just found out today. As it turns out, it's even more rare than I thought. You see, I made an awesome discovery when I decided to check for a Macintosh portion of the CD. Surprise surprise, it wasn't there. This made no sense, because the CDs were hybrid Windows/Macintosh CDs almost since the beginning of time. Well, when they moved onto CD-ROM from floppy disc, anyway. I knew there had to be something strange about this CD. Why was there no Mac portion? You just don't see that on a typical HE disc. I took a closer look at the copyrights at the bottom. I noticed something very strange. If you can't read it, here's what it says:
"Manufactured under Creative Technologies, Ltd."
Wait a minute...isn't Creative the same company who made the Sound Blaster? I wouldn't have made that connection had GeorgeQGreg not pointed this out. I always thought of them as Creative Labs, but whatever. This suddenly all began to make sense. My 486 didn't always have a sound card. My dad finally decided to get one after a while, probably because he knew we were going to start using it for games. And going by the looks of it, this CD seems like it came with my AWE 32 sound card. This means that even though hegames.ini has a creation date of January 1997, I had the disc in December 1996 (It's a long story, he tells me the setup was a huge pain). It also explains why the CD has a label of "SBCDPACK", meaning "Sound Blaster CD Pack". This CD shipped with Creative sound cards back in the day, and it was the only source of this disk as far as I know!
Basically, this means this CD is up there as one of the single rarest HE CDs in existence. I was blessed with fortune to actually come across another copy of this on the Internet after getting rid of my old one, and it was also a bonus given my old one got pretty beaten up. It also features the only version of the movie theater catalog with the classics. Well, to my knowledge, anyway. It's pretty amazing what you can find out just by looking at the copyrights on a CD!

Oh, some Sound Blaster cards came with a pack-in game called the Lion King, based on the Disney movie. At least that's what the 1996-7 Disney Interactive catalouge said.

Ah, yes, games packed in with hardware. For a while I recall that Myst was packed in with tons of CD-ROM drives, for the simple reason that there were very few other games out there that captured the quality of CD-ROM gaming at the time. If somebody put a CD-ROM drive on their computer in the early to mid 90s, chances are the first thing they played was a copy of Myst!

Most interesting!
I do also recall that disc did not come with the MS-DOS version of "Putt-Putt Joins the Parade," unlike the Humongous Classics Collection. Obviously it was because this was meant to be a Windows-only CD.
Prior to the 1995 reissues, the HE classics had separate CD-ROMs for DOS and Mac, if I'm not mistaken. When they came out with the Windows versions of the HE classics in 1995, they decided to also throw the Macintosh and DOS versions on the same disc for added convenience (not just for Mac users, but in case someone has a PC but cannot run the newer Windows version for some reason.)

I believe it was due to the development of the Hybrid format?

I guess that's why the Humongous games are 2 in 1, huh?

Also found out that Hybrid discs can actually share files. The person at Humongous who did the disc mastering as it turns out, is an idiot.
