Post your latest swapmeet/thrift store/bargain bin/Amazon/etc. buys

Post by Retrodude on Thu Sep 13, 2012 5:06 pm

Seeing as how at least one person among us goes to swapmeets regularly, I thought it would be nice to have a nice central place to post and discuss your latest used software buys. Basically, if you bought it secondhand or you found it in the bargain bin, post and discuss it here. You never know what you'll find!

As for me, last time I went to the thrift store I walked away with copies of Let's Explore the Farm and Moop and Dreadly in the Treasure on Bing Bong Island. Both of them were in EXTREMELY good condition. I seriously cannot believe that The Farm doesn't have a single scratch on it, and finding Moop and Dreadly is awesome enough in itself. Next time I get an Amazon card I'll see if I can purchase a copy of Escape from Monkey Island.

A couple of months ago I found a 54-cent copy of The New Kid on the Block in mint condition. That's right, the rarest Living Book of all time, and there it was sitting on the shelf at a steal. I also found the original 1994 release of Freddi Fish at another store, but didn't buy it.
Few weeks after, I went back and found Tonka Garage, which is actually a pretty lackluster game. I'd record it, but for some reason the racing section just refuses to work properly on every computer I've tried except my 486, which doesn't even run it efficiently enough. I also got The Oregon Trail , which is a game I played for about five minutes and put it away forever.
And just a few weeks back, I got a copy of Backyard Baseball 2005 for the PS2. Despite being 3D where it's cited to have jumped the shark, the game is actually pretty good. The PC version stuck with the easy-to-use mouse controls unlike Football 2006. Speaking of which, you said it was the final nail in the coffin... I laughed so hard. Have you even looked at 2007 onward? If you haven't...brace for impact. I had also thought I found Rescue Heroes: Lava Landslide, but of course some ignorant person slapped Monsters Inc.: Scare Island in there instead. Luckily I noticed and was able to re-donate it.

Did you somehow buy Monsters Inc.: Scare Island anyway?

Dangit, Lava Landslide is one of the Rescue Heroes games I don't have!

Managed to snag two used Gamecube games at Play N Trade: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.... AND the rare Zelda compilation disc that came with preorders of WW. That one has Zelda 1, 2, OoT, and MM on it. Sweet find!

I found some awesome stuff at Goodwill today. Living Books Tortoise and Hare, Harry and the Haunted House, Shiela Rae the Brave, Just Grandma and Me, and New Kid on the Block; plus Freddi Fish's One-Stop Fun Shop, and Putt-Putt Joins the Circus. Someone must have unloaded their PC gaming collection, because I also saw 7th Guest, Myst 3, and several other HE, and Living Books titles I already owned.

This sorta qualifies as bargain bin. The other day I went to a store called Micro Center for the first time and noticed a few Living Books in the Kids Games section. I was in a hurry and couldn't look for too long, but I also found A Vampyre Story, a game I'd been looking to buy for some time, for only $3! Definitely going back soon to get a closer look around.

I remember finding Pajama Sam 3 and 4 at a random convenience store for about $6 a while ago. I was so happy! (For finding 3 anyway!)

I didn't know there was a Living Book called a Vampyre Story, or am I lost again?

The floppy DOS version of Fatty Bear arrived yesterday. For the most part it's the same package as the rare Mac version I have, although it didn't come with a toolkit, handbook, and frisbee like the Mac package did. It also has a slightly different order form than the other one, which is early enough that it lists all media related to Putt Moon as "coming soon".

Man, did I find a lot of cool stuff this weekend! At various thrift stores I found Sonic CD for PC, the Rugrats Adventure Game, PJ Sam's One-Stop Fun Shop, LEGO Island (which i was amazed to find actually works on Win 7 64-Bit), and The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield. Plus, the Scene It! board game Simpsons Edition, and another Putt-Putt toy.

Hilarious. None of those work on XP, at least not well. Vista or 7? Screwed royally! And the soundtrack of Sonic CD on PC sucks.

The US soundtrack was used in all PC ports. Even in Japan. Actually, every port until the new one in Europe got stuck with the US soundtrack. :/

Not too long ago I got a copy of Star Fox Command from a GameStop that had a bin full of DS games for less than $5. Also, my brother got a working Zapper for his NES, since the one he had before broke and the brand new "knock-off" brand's connectors were for some reason too small.

Excuse my double post, but I found a good bunch of stuff today. I managed to snag copies of Stellaluna AND New Kid On The Block, plus Amazon Trail (spur of the moment purchase XD ) AND a PC copy of Sonic 3D Blast! My brother, meanwhile, got a copy of Trackmania Sunrise as well as both Red and Blue versions of an old Pokemon printing center application. Today was a pretty good buy for me! Putt: Happy Face

$7 altogether. CD-ROMs go for cheap at at least one of the local thrift stores. Most of them are only around 80 cents!

I found two really good deals this week. First, I found a full boxed copy of Space Quest 3 for 50 cents. and a black label Final Fantasy 7 for $3. Then today, I found CDs of The Dig and Space Quest 4, Super Metroid and SNES Sim City, and a Gamecube with all cords, two controllers and an NBA Jam Vol. 2 disc inside it (that neither I nor the cashier noticed) for around $12 total.

Where the heck do you live that you can find old copies of Space Quest lying around? Or was this online?
