Unlike Putt-Putt, which used MIDI for its music, Quake uses CD music. Other games that used CD music were Lemmings 3D, Rayman, etc.

Actually, I don't believe The Lion King Activity Center has a "slow machine mode". It's probably because it needs QuickTime for Windows 2.x to play back the animations, but it's not installed on your computer.

I believe Aladdin Activity Center also has this same issue.
